192V 560Ah Mining Locomotive Lithium Battery Solution for a Large Iron Mine in China
A mining locomotive lithium battery solution rated at 192 V and 560 Ah is now operating with a CTY12/6GP 12-ton locomotive at a large iron mine in China. It was configured for a 600 mm surface railway carrying approximately 90 tonnes per trip over a 2-3 km route with a maximum gradient of 10 per mille. The customer’s priorities were fewer charging events, shorter charging time and less battery maintenance.
Project Power Requirement
This is a non-coal, outdoor surface-haulage application at a large iron mine, so an explosion-proof battery configuration was not required. The customer’s name remains confidential.
The operating duty gave the battery project a defined boundary: approximately 90 tonnes per trip, 600 mm gauge, a 2-3 km route and a maximum gradient of 10 per mille. These conditions were considered together with the customer’s charging and maintenance requirements.
The 192 V 560 Ah Lithium Battery Configuration
The selected power supply is a 192 V, 560 Ah lithium battery system with two battery packs and one charger. This arrangement was specified in response to the customer’s request to reduce charging frequency and charging time.

The battery supplies a CTY12/6GP locomotive with two 22 kW traction motors. The vehicle uses AC frequency speed control, compressed-air braking and secondary drive.
For this surface iron-mine project, the supplied battery uses a non-explosion-proof configuration. The choice follows the documented non-coal, outdoor operating environment. Protection requirements for another project should be confirmed from its actual mining conditions.

Why the Battery Solution Was Selected
Charging Requirements Drove the Power Choice
The customer specifically wanted fewer charging events and shorter charging time. Lithium battery power and the two-battery, one-charger arrangement were selected around those priorities. The project record does not provide a charging-time figure, so no unverified duration is claimed.
Maintenance Was Part of the Selection Decision
Reducing battery maintenance was another stated objective and part of the reason for selecting lithium power. No maintenance interval or percentage reduction is claimed because those figures were not provided.
Electrical Configuration Matched the Locomotive System
The 192 V, 560 Ah battery was configured for the CTY12/6GP platform, its two 22 kW motors and AC frequency speed control. The locomotive has a rated traction force of 16.48 kN, a maximum traction force of 29.43 kN and a speed of 8.7 km/h. These parameters define the vehicle system served by the battery pack.
Confirmed Battery and Vehicle Data
The main confirmed data for the supplied system are:
- Battery power supply: 192 V, 560 Ah lithium battery
- Charging arrangement: two battery packs and one charger
- Application platform: CTY12/6GP 12-ton mining locomotive
- Traction motors: 2 x 22 kW
- Speed control: AC frequency control
- Track gauge: 600 mm
- Operating route: 2-3 km surface transport
- Maximum gradient: 10 per mille

Factory Checks and Site Operation
The completed CTY12/6GP locomotive underwent a factory running test. Project photographs document the lithium battery pack, its connection to the DC charging cabinet and the monitoring and charging interface. The site photograph shows the battery installed on the locomotive at the iron mine.

The locomotive is now operating at the iron mine. According to the confirmed project information, its operating performance is good and it fully meets the customer’s requirements. No additional runtime, charging-time or productivity figures are available for publication.
Selecting a Lithium Battery for a Mining Locomotive
This project identifies the inputs needed before configuring a mining battery system: locomotive model, voltage and capacity, traction motors, charging plan, route, gradient, gauge, transport requirement and mining environment. Here, they led to a 192 V, 560 Ah non-explosion-proof system with two packs and one charger.
